Moving Tips
The following information will help you keep the cost of your move
to a minimum.
You will need the following materials to properly pack your belongings, unless we are doing the packing for you: 2" strapping tape, boxes of various sizes, wrapping paper (clean newsprint), marking pens, "fragile" stickers and bubble wrap.
All boxes must be taped shut. We do not move open boxes. Please label the boxes as to room (kitchen, bath, den, bedroom 1/2/3, etc.) Label boxes "fragile" if there are breakables in the box. Please consolidate small, light boxes into larger boxes. Do not overload the boxes. Your heaviest box should not exceed 75 pounds.
If possible, place your boxes in a central location such as the living room or garage, as close to your front door as possible.
Items such as lamps, artwork, and mirrors must be boxed to reduce the risk of breakage. Stereo components, VCRs, computers and electronic components, other than televisions, must be boxed. If you do not have boxes for these items, we can carry them to your car and load and unload them for you. Items of extraordinary value, such as original art work, sculptures, jewelry, coin and stamp collections, should not go in the truck.
Hanging clothes in your closets may be inexpensively packed by wire tying 10 to 12 items together at the tip of the hangers, then covering the clothes with a large trash can liner.
Freezers and refrigerators must be empty. Gas appliances must be disconnected from the gas service prior to our arrival. Please have your major appliances ready to move. Disassemble your beds and other furniture prior to arrival. Washing machines should have new hot- and cold-water hoses. We accept no liability for water damage if your old hoses are used. If you need assistance with these items, we will gladly help.
Please try not to have your phone service turned off at your present home until after you are moved. We may need to call you on the day of your move and we will have no way to get in touch with you. If you must have your phone turned off, please borrow a cell phone or pager so that we may contact you. Please call the office and supply us with that number.
Please pack the contents of desks, bookcases, credenzas, hutches and file cabinets. You may leave a moderate amount of clothes in dressers as long as they are not made of particleboard. You must remove any cash, jewelry or firearms.
We do not move the following items: cash, jewelry, firearms or ammunition, constructions materials, used auto parts, large commercial machinery, pesticides, paint, propane bottles, firewood, grand pianos, and any items in excess of 400 pounds. Upright spinets and baby grand pianos we do move, but charge extra. Please ask our dispatcher for details.

We may bring to your attention a situation where we feel that the possibility of damage to your belongings might occur if we move them to a location you specify. If you still wish to have that item or items moved, we reserve the right to have you sign a damage waiver. (Narrow stairway, low ceiling, tight corners, moving items through windows or hoisting or lowering items up or down the side of a building, etc.)
